Four Creative Scrabble Arts & Crafts for Inspiration

| February 26, 2013 | 0 Comments

Since I have started this website, I’ve been tuning into all things Scrabble related which appear on the web so that I can  play with the ideas and also share them with you here.

I’ve been surprised at how many different ways people have managed to use my favorite word game as inspiration for some pretty awesome Scrabble arts & crafts projects, many of which are relatively easy to do yourself if you are into that sort of stuff.

Scrabble Wedding

In a previous post, we covered some unique gifts for word lovers. That list included several neat Scrabble-themed arts and crafts, but today I’d like to showcase four of my most recent discoveries and I hope you will get some of your own ideas.

Scrabble arts & craftsThis is a lovely pinboard collection of photos I recently found on Pinterest. It shows various elements of wedding design which all showcase a common Scrabble theme for word nerds everywhere to drool over.

Some of the photos here are really quite beautiful, like the ring in place of the letter “O” in the Scrabble rack shown on the left.

Not sure I’m a big fan of the Scrabble wedding cake, as it just looks a bit cheap or cheesy to me for some reason. However, I adore the Scrabble wedding invitations and the glass vase holding the bouquet that is holding a handful of tiles at the bottom.

 Scrabble Rug

This would seem to be a must-have item for any true word nerd. Ditch the Star Wars bedspread for this awesome Scrabble rug, which you can buy for $169 from this website. The rug measurements are 78″ x 78″ and it is made from 100% nylon.

While the website boasts that it also makes great wall art, I had more lurid thoughts upon seeing the size of the rug, such as Scrabble Twister. I’m not really sure how that would work, but looking at the rug does make me think of that for whatever reason.

Scrabble Inspired Nail Art

Scrabble arts & craftsThis video tutorial shows a very cool way to wear your love of words right on the hands that you use to write them with. Yes, folks…that’s right. You can pretty much depict anything known to man using nail art, and it turns out that Scrabble is no exception.

At first I thought this didn’t really remind me of or look much like Scrabble tiles.

However, as I continued to watch the process unfold, I became sold on this idea when the video showed her painting on the tiny little numbers in the upper corner of each nail, to indicate the letter’s value. For me, this is an incredibly cool little detail which makes these nails much easier to recognize as Scrabble tiles.

I am not sure I loved the base color used here though. I imagine you could get away with a few other shades, like a dark brown wooden color or something similar.

DIY Scrabble Pillows

This is a great DIY project for anyone who has a bit of arts and crafts flair about them. This is another video tutorial which shows you how to make your own Scrabble pillows and breaks it down for you step-by-step.

Basically, you find a font online that you want to use and then blow it up in size and print it out on transfer paper before finally ironing it onto the pillow or pillowcase of your choice.

This is a creative and inexpensive way to make your own decorative Scrabble pillows for the couch or bed of your favorite word nerd.
